Clean Power Alliance Expands Geothermal Partnership with Fervo Energy to Deliver 24/7 Clean Power to 54,500 Homes

Clean Power Alliance (CPA), California’s largest community choice energy aggregator and the nation’s leading green power provider, announced in a press release that it has taken another major step toward a reliable, carbon-free energy future. CPA approved an expanded power purchase agreement (PPA) with Fervo Energy, adding 18 megawatts (MW) of round-the-clock geothermal energy to its portfolio—bringing the total to 48 MW of firm, renewable electricity for Southern California.

The 15-year agreement builds on CPA’s earlier 30 MW contract with Fervo and directly supports California’s clean energy mandate requiring 1,000 MW of non-weather-dependent, zero-emission energy. With this expansion, CPA will deliver enough 24/7 clean power to supply over 54,500 homes each year—while avoiding a staggering 173 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

“Geothermal energy is one of the cleanest, most reliable power sources available,” said Lindsay Descagnia, CPA’s VP of Power Supply. “Our partnership with Fervo Energy taps into their breakthrough technology to deliver long-term reliability and sustainability to the 35 communities we serve.”

Fervo is leading the charge in next-gen geothermal with innovative methods like horizontal drilling and fiber optic sensing. These technologies are transforming geothermal from a niche resource into a scalable, cost-effective solution that complements solar and wind energy. According to Dawn Owens, Fervo’s VP and Head of Development, “Next-generation geothermal is essential to delivering always-on, clean power and strengthening the grid.”

Set to begin operation in 2028, the Beaver County, Utah-based project will not only supply California’s grid with firm, renewable power—it will also create an estimated 200 temporary construction jobs and 15–30 permanent roles once operational.

Together, CPA and Fervo Energy are showing that geothermal energy isn’t just viable, it’s vital for a clean, resilient, and reliable energy future.
